Exotic flavors go global
North America remained the largest salty snacks market and saw 35 new flavors launched between January 2010 and August 2014 including maple sea salt, green apple caramel, sour cream & onion. However, smaller markets also saw an increase in available flavor options.
“Consumers’ growing interest in ethnic and exotic flavors has influenced brands to experiment with new, innovative and interesting flavors,” Raleigh Burnidge, marketing associate at FONA told BakeryandSnacks.com
Examples included: TNT fruit chutney-flavored popcorn in Nigeria, American Garden hotn’ spicy popcorn in India and Top of the Pop barbecue popcorn in South Africa.
