The UK subscription baking business has taken another step towards its mission to become a climate positive company by partnering with Ecologi, planting a tree for every order placed.

The duo have already planted more than 18,000 trees across Ecologi’s global reforestation projects – which supports the Gold Standard for businesses and consumers under the 2030 Sustainable Development Goal agenda.

The collaboration with Ecologi builds on Bakedin’s existing environmental commitments, which includes a fully sustainable supply chain, introducing an electric vehicle programme and switching to recyclable packaging. It has also signed up to offset each of its employee’s personal carbon footprints by funding climate change solutions.

Eliminating food waste

“We’re a business that was established with the aim of eliminating food waste, so sustainability has always been core to Bakedin’s ethos,” said Joe Munns, founder and CEO of Bakedin.

“Teaming up with Ecologi was a no-brainer to further our environmental objectives. The partnership means that we can bring our customers on the journey to minimise our carbon footprint and make a positive contribution to essential climate projects.

“Like so many businesses, we have a long way to go – carbon negative is very much the immediate goal for 2021.”

Dennis Hettema from Ecologi, added, “We’re delighted to have the Bakedin team join the Ecologi family and help create real impact as a climate positive business.

“What’s more, they’re helping their customers feel more empowered and inspired as they become part of this important climate crisis movement.”

Bakedin is a team of 30 bakers producing baking kits and mixes in its SALSA-approved factory in Basingstoke. Its diverse product range includes premium baking kits, convenient mug baking mixes, as well as a newly launched ‘Cocktail Cupcake’ range.
