Moving business online enables bakers to pick up new, younger customers because of the convenience factor, says the vice president of Busken Bakery.

Speaking to BakeryandSnacks.com at IBIE 2013, Brian Busken said that the company’s decision to move part of its business online around ten years ago has enabled it to capture a younger consumer base.

“We’ve realised that we need to start to appeal to a younger audience and we do that by investing in our online sales channel, we know that’s where to find those consumers,” he said.

However, while this shift online has proved profitable for business, it has not come without its challenges, he said.

Processing online orders and organizing shipping of perishable food products needs to be well managed, Busken said.
