More precise application, leading to reduced ingredient costs and less waste, is the benefit claimed for a new on-machine seasoning system from Australia-based packaging equipment supplier, tna after its acquisition of Arcall.

Claimed to be a world-first with both wet and/or dry applications, the tna intelli-flav OMS 3, features a variable mass seasoning system. The system incorporates a dynamic vibratory weigher to control the flow of seasoning powder into the drum for improved coverage and flavour dispersion and can be linked to tna conveyors for an integrated processing solution.

Speaking at the Interpack trade event in Dusseldorf, Germany, a spokesperson told FoodProductionDaily: “This breakthrough design delivers cost savings by achieving a tighter tolerance band of seasoning application and (therefore) elements in the online seasoning system are independently controlled offering easier control of seasoning , salt and fat contents compared with competitor models,” said the spokesperson.

Depth sensors

Designed for quick flavour change, the system includes an active online weighing device in the conveyer unlike competitor models which use bed depth sensors. This means much more precise control of seasoning mix used to treat products such as Kettle chips, said the spokesman.

The intelli-flav OMS 3 incorporates a Slurry Spraygun System which is said to ensure accuracy and consistency of spray across the product with continuous adjustment to meet coating or product weight targets.

New hygienic heated hoses heat oil only at the point of spray application and help to reduce waste and improve oil efficiency.

Easy access to individually controlled spray guns is claimed to minimize maintenance and downtime.

One unit is said to have been sold already to US snack producer Shearers Foods Inc manufacturers of potato chips, tortilla chips, whole grain chips, pretzels, puffs, curls, and other snacks.
Worldwide

The intelli-flav OMS 3 is available worldwide and price depends on specification.

The launch follows the tna’s acquisition in March of Arcall, as supplier of spraying, seasoning and cutting systems. Commenting on the acquisition, Bob Fritz, tna’s business development director said: “Seasoning is an integral part of the manufacturing process and finding an effective seasoning system is vital for the success of any production line.

“Our acquisition of Arcall has given tna access to market-leading seasoning technology and now positions us as the only supplier of seasoning solutions for the whole production line from the end of fryers or ovens right through to packing.”
