A new flow meter that delivers faster operating times and improved versatility for use with Rockwell Automation’s Logix platform was launched at last week’s Drinktec trade fair, Munich, Germany.

The Promass 83 Coriolis Mass Flow Meter, manufactured by engineering specialists Endress and Hauser was specifically developed with EtherNet/IP connectivity in mind. The new hardware is also designed to complement Rockwell Automation’s RSLogix 5000 and FactoryTalk software programs.

A typical application for the Promass 83 would be the precise control of the incoming flow of raw materials and helping to maintain the quality of the finished product.

In addition to measuring mass flow and density, the unit can also measure viscosity.

The benefits jointly delivered include reduced network count, simpler installation, easy integration and reduced programming time, according to both companies. Dion Bouwer, product manager platforms at Endress and Hauser said: “For the end user, the primary advantage will be simplicity and speed of integration.”
