US-based International Dispensing Corporation has announced that Wegman's Food Markets of New York has introduced its latest packaging line, a disposable Beverage Carafe designed to safely carry 96 ounces of hot brewed coffee.

The IDC disposable Beverage Carafe is customised with Wegman's graphics and sold under the Wegman's brand name, "Java Box." Wegman's is currently cross-merchandising the carafe in its coffee shop, deli, prepared foods, bakery, and sub-shop departments, and through Wegman's business-to-business catering division.

IDC's 96-ounce Beverage Carafe is composed of a sterile, flexible, 100-gauge nylon pouch attached to a rigid plastic frame. Corrugated side panels attach to the plastic frame and can insulate liquids at a constant temperature for up to two hours.

The carafe was awarded a utility patent by the US Patent and Trademark office in April 2002. Additionally, a Silver Medal for Packaging Excellence was awarded by the Flexible Packaging Association in March of 2002.

In an internal Wegman's evaluation process, several packaging alternatives were considered, including a package known as the "Box O' Joe" coffee box. IDC's Beverage Carafe was selected because it offered better thermal properties.

International Dispensing Corporation develops, manufactures and markets products for liquid bulk dispensing.
