As Pack Expo 2011 closed its doors yesterday in Las Vegas, FoodProductionDaily.com spoke to Jorge Izquierdo from show organisers PMMI for their reaction to the three-day event.

The vice president of market development hailed the record attendance in terms of exhibitors and delegates, with heavy footfall throughout the three halls.

A surge in innovation in flexible packaging applications and developments in retail ready options have been two of the standout trends that exhibitors have focused on, he added.

Izquierdo also contrasted the high level of economic activity inside the show halls with the forecasts of a financial slowdown in the macro economy and predicted 2011 would be a record year for the US packaging machinery sector.
