Pukpip real frozen bananas dipped in chocolate
The frozen snack brand is on a mission to help Brits eat more fruit by disrupting the UK ice cream category and tapping into the rise of permissible but indulgent snacking with the launch of Real Frozen Banana’s Dipped in Chocolate.
A first of its kind in UK retail (sister company Diana’s has proven to be very successful in the US), the range is available in a choice of milk chocolate, vegan dark chocolate and coming soon – white chocolate.
The range is unabashedly aimed at the Millennial female, with or without children, looking to find balance with healthier snacks and desserts – and has been developed using UK market research and consumer insights.
“We know consumers are increasingly health conscious and actively looking for ways to improve their diet,” said Zara Gugen, MD of Pukpip.
“With tighter HFSS regulation, we’re also giving retailers more opportunities to stock healthier, HFSS compliant options for consumers which still prioritise taste. We want to give consumers the best of both worlds; an easy way to enjoy more fruit and indulge in a permissible chocolate treat, enabling them to feel good about their choices.”
Pukpip bananas are responsibly sourced from Ecuador, but are rejected from export due to small imperfections, wrong shape or size, or simply because there are too many on a bunch. Pukpip upcycle these bananas that would otherwise go to waste, helping them find their true calling as tasty, chocolate-covered treats. Once the bananas are peeled, dipped and safely in the freezer, the leftover skins are then upcycled back into the ecosystem.
Part of the Semvra Group – one of the largest exports of fruit and veg from Ecuador – the Pukpip name is formed from Pukka (‘good’, ‘happy’, ‘genuine’) and Pip (from the pips in fruit) – a fun and playful name that pops as you say it.
Pukpip Real Frozen Bananas are only 152-161 calories each, available in multipacks of 3 for an RRP of £3.99 from CLF and Consort Frozen Foods for independent retailers.
