Movers and shakers from the world of packaging streamed through the doors of Interpack 2002 in Dusseldorf, Germany on Wednesday to participate in one of the world's leading packaging trade fairs. The exhibition organiser's, Messe Düsseldorf, boasted on the opening day that 'Interpack is bigger than ever before.'

At the opening ceremony, Interpack president Ernst H. Berndl said: "I still find it remarkable that a small-scale niche event has grown into a huge international show with over 2,500 exhibitors."

According to the organisers, exactly 2 552 exhibitors from 51 countries are present at the event and for the first time 17 halls are being utilised. Visitors to the exhibition will have the opportunity to view the latest developments in packaging machinery, packaging and confectionery machinery. And if the sheer size of the event sounds awe-inspiring and positively off-putting the organisers claim: "In spite of its size, Interpack has a clear exhibition structure: the fair can be seen from its "sweet side" in Halls 1 to 3 (where confectionery machinery is on show), while packaging materials of all kinds are being shown by their manufacturers in Halls 8 to 11. High-tech solutions from the packaging machinery manufacturing field in Halls 4 to 7 and 11 to 17."

According to a statement on Wednesday, 60 per cent of the companies exhibiting at interpack 2002 do not come from Germany. Italy, Great Britain, France, the Netherlands and the USA all have strong representation.

Interpack 2002 will take place in Dusseldorf, Germany, from 24 -30 April 2002. Watch out for regular reports and updates brought directly from the event by the FoodProductionDaily.com editorial team.
