For the past six years, Clunie has led the team at Zero Waste Scotland, helping to reduce food waste across the supply chain from farm to fork and working towards Scotland’s target of 33% food waste reduction by 2025.
His new remit is to drive the Strategic Net Zero Response Programme on behalf of the Scotland Food & Drink Partnership to get the Scottish F&B sector to meet its pledge to attain Net Zero status by 2045.
The Partnership’s Net Zero Commitment consists of five long-term commitments, underpinned by a programme of targeted interventions, which will address the challenges and opportunities the transition to a Net Zero sector involves.
FDF Scotland’s CEO David Thomson said Clunie will be an important cog in achieving this aim.
“He brings with him a wealth of experience that will provide food and drink businesses with the support they need to ensure we can deliver net zero food and drink products on our supermarket shelves by 2045,” said Thomson.
Clunie’s team will be the catalyst between policymakers, politicians, regulators and other stakeholders and Scotland’s F&B industry.
“Reaching net zero is one of the biggest challenges facing Scotland’s food and drink industry,” said Clunie.
“Our manufacturers and producers have made great progress, but there is so much more to do. I am excited to get stuck in to help food and drink businesses with projects that will reduce the carbon emissions of their products and support Scotland’s journey to net zero.”
