Ingredients specialist Griffith Foods has acquired Somerset-based The Flavourworks for an undisclosed amount.

The procurement is part of Griffith Foods’ ambitious growth plans for the coming decade to further cement its 102-year track record for creating bespoke products and fast turnaround.

Griffith Foods said the complimentary skills, expertise and collaborative culture make it a strong partnership.

The agreement will see the UK company become part of the Griffith Foods European & African division, with sister sites in Belgium, Spain, UK and South Africa. According to the Herental-based division, the product offerings are well matched and “both companies are collaborative forward thinkers with a track record for innovation and delivering bespoke customer solutions.”

Wim van Roekel, president of Griffith Foods Europe & Africa, added, “We have long admired its strong customer focus and its product range allows us to develop the wider Griffith Foods offering and accelerate our European growth plans.”

Strong global presence

The Illinois, US-headquartered family business was founded in 1919 and today has a presence in over 30 countries. The company partners with some of the globes largest food processors, retailers and QSR businesses to develop a broad portfolio that ranges from culinary-inspired seasonings and sauces to coatings blended to exacting specification that are culturally authentic, on trend and improve food safety.

The Flavourworks was founded 30 years ago, producing a range of chef-inspired flavoured butters, oils, marinades, glazes and rubs to the manufacturing, hospitality and retail streams.

“The Griffith Foods team has a strong set of company values and a business culture that is very similar to what we have been developing here,” said Chris Ormrod, MD of The Flavourworks.

“This is the beginning of a whole new chapter for The Flavourworks team and for our customers. I know one thing for certain – there will be some very exciting new ingredient combinations on the way.”
