KTC Edibles has launched a fully-traceable Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil (RSPO)-certified palm oil as part of its sustainability programme.

According to the UK edible oils producer, Palmax IP (identity preserved) sets a new standard in sustainability and is ideal for bakery, snacks and food service companies who care about environmentally friendly, ethical production.

It provides complete transparency and traceability throughout the supply chain, right back to the original mill and surrounding plantation.

The launch is part of KTC’s commitment to transition to 100% RSPO-certified sustainable palm oil by 2022. Over the coming year, the company will also be rolling out an extensive range of identity preserved palm oil, palm olein, stearin and high oleic palm oil products.

"Our mission is to make certified sustainable palm oil the norm across the entire food industry" - Gary Lewis

“KTC are serious about sustainability, and our mission is to make certified sustainable palm oil the norm across the entire food industry – and we want to make it as easy as possible for every customer to make the right decision,” said Gary Lewis, head of Business Development for Oils and Fats at KTC and president of the National Edible Oil Distributors’ Association (NEODA).

“Palmax IP is the gold standard in RSPO-certified sustainable palm oil for manufacturers. We are actively looking to educate customers about the benefits of sustainability, while encouraging them to adopt sustainable solutions as part of a complete transition by 2022.”

Sustainable agriculture

Palmax IP is sourced from Daabon, a food solutions company headquartered in Santa Marta, Colombia.

Owned and operated by the second generation of the Davila Abondano family, the company is also a leader in the sustainable agriculture of palm, coffee, cocoa and bananas in South America. The company holds a wealth of sustainability accreditations and memberships, including Rainforest Alliance, Palm Oil Innovation Group and RSPO certification.

The palm is grown at Daabon’s plantation in Northern Colombia and milled in Daabon’s refinery.

The launch of Palmax IP is part of a wider brand refresh of the Palmax range, including new packaging that highlights the sustainability of the products. The full range includes Palmax SG (RSPO segregated, certified sustainable), Palmax IP and Palmax. KTC is committed to phasing out the original Palmax by 2022.

All Palmax products are available in 12.5kg boxes.

KTC Edibles was founded in 1972 and today is Britain’s largest independent manufacturer of edible oils, with a 275-strong workforce across two sites in Wednesbury and Liverpool. The company supplies more than 250m litres of cooking oils to customers of all sizes each year.

In addition to oils and fats, KTC produces and distributes a range of world food products through its flagship KTC, Sea Isle and Suncrest brands.
