Hostess Brands is adding the smash hit sweet treat to its permanent lineup due to ‘overwhelming’ demand.

According to the Kansas City-headquartered snack cake giant, more than 31 million Hostess Birthday CupCakes have been enjoyed by Americans during its 2019 Sweetennial year – which translates to enough iconic signature squiggles to stretch more than 1,143 miles.

The history-making snack was originally created at a limited time offering to celebrate the company’s 100th anniversary. But, due to the ‘overwhelming’ sales, the Twinkies maker has added the product to the brand’s permanent snack cake lineup.

It’s a clear message Hostess is right on cue in responding to consumer cravings.

Leading the way in innovation

“Beyond the extraordinary staying power of our iconic snacks, Hostess continues to lead the way in innovation, with fresh flavours, fun concepts and festive twists on classic favourites have continued to keep the brand exciting and relevant,” said Chad Lusk, senior VP and chief marketing officer of Hostess Brands.

“The entirety of the Hostess ‘Sweetennial’ bash was a tremendous success and a terrific opportunity to engage with our consumers.

“The consumers’ blockbuster response to the Birthday CupCake is quite literally the icing on the cake for this memorable milestone.”

Hostess Birthday CupCakes feature golden cake with rainbow sprinkles baked in and a vanilla icing. Topping the treat are more rainbow sprinkles and The Original Squiggle. The snacks are available in multi-pack and single-serve formats in outlets across the US.
