The weather may not be autumnal as yet – or piquing into spring in the southern hemisphere – but that has not stopped bakery and snack producers from announcing their limited-edition seasonal releases.

Falling for you

Hostess has announced the roll-out of its seasonal pumpkin-flavored treats with the tagline ‘We couldn’t wait for Fall to get here, so we’re bringing Fall to you.’

The autumnal Twinkies features the standard golden sponge cake filled with a pumpkin spice cream.

Also reappearing on shelves will be limited-edition Ice Pumpkin Cupcake – topped with the iconic swirl – and Caramel Crunch Donettes.

The company has not announced the release date, but there is  no doubt it will be soon.

Nestle

Nestlé Toll House is bringing out Chocolate Chip Cookies with Leaf Sprinkles in the typical autumnal colors of red, orange and brown.

The brand’s Fall’n Leaves Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough hit store shelves at select US retailers, including Kroger, Walmart, Meijer and Food Lion, from August, for an RRP of $2.99 for a pack of 24 cookies.

Nestlé unveiled its new Edible Cookie Dough concept last month, making it possible for snackers to indulge in raw cookie dough without the ever-present risk of contracting salmonella or E. coli.

Reese’s is bringing back its Halloween-themed cereal for the second year.

Reese’s Peanut Butter Puffs Bats cereal is made with whole grain corn, Reese’s peanut butter and Hershey’s Cocoa.

The bat-themed breakfast cereal from General Mills has no artificial flavors, colors, or high fructose corn syrup, and is vegan.

Reese’s Puffs Bats are only available in the cereal aisle for a limited time, starting in October 2019, for an RRP of $2.50 (standard box) and $3.99 (family-sized).

Popcornopolis

Gourmet popcorn company Popcornopolis is launching Halloween Popcorn Mini Cones at Sam’s Club locations nationwide.

The Halloween Snack Pack of 12 mini cones includes four of Popcornopolis’ best-selling classic popcorn flavors – Zebra, Caramel Corn, Cheddar Cheese and Kettle Corn – each packaged with its own cartoon design.

Popcornopolis’ products are made from American-grown, non-GMO corn, are certified gluten-free and contain no high fructose corn syrup or added preservatives.

The Snack Pack will be available from September 1 at Sam’s Clubs locations across the US for an RRP of $9.98.

Funko is taking on Disney villains for Halloween with the release of cereals featuring Ursula the sea witch from The Little Mermaid and Oogie Boogie from Tim Burton’s The Nightmare Before Christmas.

The cereals consist of similar shapes but in colors related to the character: Ursula’s is purple and Oogie Boogie is green.

Naturally, each box of FunkO’s comes with a Pocket Pop character for collectors to add to their sets.

The Ursula and Oogie Boogie cereals are exclusive available from Spirit Halloween and Spencer’s stores, starting around September 11. However, they can be pre-ordered now on the outlets websites for an RRP of $10.99.

It’s that time of year again

Heavyweight snacking giant Calbee is gearing up for the holiday season by bringing back an old favorite and partnering with Fandango for a movie-fest promotion.

Harvest Snaps is bringing back, by popular demand, two limited edition holiday flavors: Salted Caramel Red Lentil Snack Crisps and Cinnamon Brown Sugar Red Lentil Snack Crisps.

The baked veggie-first snack crisps – made from Non-GMO red lentils – are packed with 6g of protein and 3g of fiber, and only 130 calories per serving. They also certified gluten-free, and are completely free of artificial flavors, colors, cholesterol and the common allergens soy, nuts, wheat and eggs.

The Holiday Snack Crisps will hit shelves in November in festive 3 oz. bags.

Harvest

The brand is also partnering with Fandango to offer a special promotion for snack and movie lovers across the US.

After purchasing five bags of Harvest Snaps, shoppers can submit receipts to receive $5 toward a movie ticket from the digital movie app. During the promotion, Harvest Snaps’ 3oz and 3.3oz bags will be offered at a special value of five for $10, and the 10oz flavors will be discounted to $5 each.

The promotion will run from November 4, 2019 to January 11, 2020.

“We hope through this promotion to inspire more people to spend time together over the holiday season, while also encouraging them to enjoy Harvest Snaps’ lineup of wholesome, crunchy and delicious veggie-first snacks,”​ said Paul Laubscher, director of Marketing, Calbee North America.

pladis UK&I is gearing up for the season with traditional favourites from McVitie’s.

The McVitie’s 2019 Christmas selection taps into the popularity of giftable tins and sharing formats, comprising of favorites, like McVitie’s Victoria, McVitie’s Family Circle, McVitie’s Jaffa Cakes Christmas Pole and McVitie’s Jaffa Cakes Christmas Tin.

It has also added new products to the line-up, including McVitie’s Gingerbread Men Decorating Kit and McVitie’s Luxury Chocolate Biscuit Selection.

“Christmas is the time of year when being with loved ones is at the top of the agenda, and every product in the McVitie’s Christmas range has been carefully crafted as the perfect sharing treat for these moments. So, whether consumers are gathering with friends and family, work colleagues or neighbours, there’s something for every occasion in our latest seasonal range,”​ said Jonathan Bull, head of McVitie’s Commercial & Seasonal Brands, pladis UK&I.

The products will be available at various UK grocery outlets, ranging in RRP from £1 to £10.
