HERMA has opened a €20m Labeling Machinery plant at its HQ in Filderstadt, Germany, installing an IIoT-enabled (Industrial Internet of Things) HERMA 500 Label Applicator.

The company says the plant is in response to recent growth and rising demand for labels and it is constructing a coating plant for self-adhesive materials adjacent to the Labeling Machinery facility, scheduled for completion in autumn 2019.

3 divisions-in-one

The plant will incorporate a more modern, streamlined production layout for maximized manufacturing efficiency.

The facility reflects HERMA’s rapid growth as a result of manufacturing success while positioning us for future expansion,” said Martin Kühl, head of HERMA’s Labeling Machines Division.

All workflows are optimized with regard to ideal communication, minimal throughput times, and maximum manufacturing excellence.”

The facility now combines each of HERMA’s divisions – Self-adhesive Materials, Labels, and Labeling Machines – in one location reflecting its commitment to cross-departmental strategies.

Next-generation machine

The company launched an American subsidiary, HERMA US, in 2016 and the plant opening is on the back of selling more than 4,000 of its HERMA 400 Label Applicators in 2018 and introducing the next-generation HERMA 500.

The IIoT-enabled machine utilizes real-time metrics for production efficiency and consistency, capable of achieving labeling speeds up to 200m/min and label widths between 80-320mm and roll diameters from 300–600mm.

It also integrates Industry 4.0 connectivity and has a maximum speed of 650ft/m.
