Toyo Ink Brasil, part of Toyo Ink Group, is looking to boost its market presence in Latin America by upgrading its polyurethane-based surface and lamination inks for flexo and gravure printing.

It will debut the range of PU-based inks for laminated packaging applications at Fispal Tecnologia in Sao Paulo this week (June 26-29).

Cookies, nuts, crackers

Sergio Pera, director, Toyo Ink Brasil, said the inks are primarily used in laminated plastic bags for snack foods like cookies, nuts or crackers.

High-end applications include boil-in-bag or microwavable pouches for ready-made meals such as pastas, bean or curry dishes.

Pera added Latin America is a key segment for flexible packaging and demand is continuing to grow for packaging that offers more convenience with stronger barriers, lighter weight materials and shorter print runs.

We are looking to boost our presence in this important market and we have been working closely with our customers to improve our range of polyurethane resin-based inks to meet their requirements for greater versatility and performance,” he said.

South America

Toyo Ink Brasil was established in 2010 as the first location in South America for its parent company Toyo Ink SC Holdings.

The line of PU-based lamination inks includes: Liotech solvent-based flexo and gravure systems; Liovalue solvent-based gravure series; Rexta solvent-based flexo series;  Aquecol water-based gravure series and Aqua Liona water-based flexo series.

Based on the Group’s pigment dispersion system, the PU lineup shows high color density for a wider color gamut and leverages the company’s cross-link technology for polyurethane resins, making it possible for converters to engineer packaging structures that exhibit superior heat resistance, content resistance and low solvent retention for very low odor.

These systems are suited for printing on substrates, such as corona treated OPP, PET, Nylon, without a primer or any other chemical treatment.
