Lindor has built its largest ever drum mixer, weighing 22,500kg and a height of over 4 metres, to a gelatin producer in the US.

The L25000 drum has a maximum batch volume of 25,000 litres and a batch weight of approximately 20 tons.

Lindor refused to name the customer but said the L25000 mixes gelatin granules and gelatin powder with additives such as pectin, to achieve texture, taste or stability required.

The gelatin is used in food, such as marshmallows, wine gums and baking powders, as an emulsifier.

The company said in a statement, the machine was transported by a barge from its factory in Dordrecht, in the Netherlands to the port of Rotterdam. From there, it was shipped to the US and driven through six states to meet its final destination.

One of its most important features is the low mix energy (less than 2 W/kg) which prevents breakage, dust formation and heating build-up. This is important because gelatin melts when heated.

The horizontal construction of the Lindor drum mixer was also important for this customer, because it was easier to install at the end of the production line.

At the customer's request, Lindor fitted the mixer with six instead of three cleaning and inspection hatches for better accessibility and easier, more efficient cleaning.

The hatches come with a fast-lock to be opened and closed quickly and the mixer is equipped with a large sized, retractable inlet and outlet for operators to inspect and clean the system.
