GEA plans to extend its portfolio following its acquisition of Pavan Group in Italy, which supplies extrusion and milling technology for processing pasta, snacks and breakfast cereals.

The Italian specialist makes technology for long and short-cut dry pasta, nest shaped, pre-cooked pasta, couscous, and machinery for filled, flat, and extruded fresh pasta, convenience food and gnocchi.

Packaging lines

It also provides dies, cutting systems, die washing equipment and packaging lines in this segment.

Nicole Meierotto, corporate media and press, GEA, told BakeryandSnacks she could not comment on the acquisition at this stage.

But in a statement, Jürg Oleas, CEO, GEA, said it will integrate the venture into its Business Area Equipment division, where it will create a ‘dedicated product group’ under the name of Pasta, Extrusion & Milling.

Building on Pavan’s 70-year expertise, its broad product range and sustained investment in research and development, our aim is to grow the business continuously, also in geographical terms,” he said.

Food processing

In the future, this will enable us to offer our customers processing and automated technologies for deployment in stand-alone installations and turnkey systems.”

Oleas said the acquisition is an important milestone in GEA’s growth strategy for further expanding its food processing activities.

Previous acquisitions in Northern Italy include Comas and Imaforni.

Pavan posted revenues of approximately €155m in the 2016 financial year. It’s head offices are based in Galliera Veneta near Padua, and it employs about 680 across several production sites in Italy and China.
