Water-based inks projected to fuel future growth of snacks industry
It claims its Aqua Liona series of water-based flexo lamination ink is the first of its kind to support high-end retort applications, with excellent printability at high-speeds.
High pigmentation design
Its Aquaecol water-based gravure lamination inks also feature a high pigmentation design for applications from snacks to retort food packaging. Made with a water-soluble urethane resin the inks adher to chemical substance regulations and guidelines, such as the Swiss Ordinance and the European Printing Ink Association.
Toyo Ink has now partnered with Doneck to distribute the water-based lamination inks across Europe.
“We're delighted to enter this agreement with Doneck Euroflex, a major company in the supply of liquid ink systems across Europe,” said Katsumi Yamazaki, president, Toyo Ink.
“We already have an established supply structure and a proven sales track record in Asia and North and South America. The new licensing agreement will allow us to strengthen our existing water-based liquid inks operations on a global basis by extending its supply structure to Europe, a region where its presence had been weak up until now.”
Boil-in pouch applications
Aqua Liona is ideal for conventional snack food packaging for crackers and nuts and boil-in pouch applications like curries, stews or pasta sauces.
While tapping into Doneck's distribution network, Toyo Ink will provide customer support to individual market needs and shipments of 1,000 tons per year during the company's next mid-term management plan from fiscal 2018 through to fiscal 2020.
The licensing agreement is expected to strengthen the position of both companies in the competitive global packaging industry, as water-based alternatives to printing inks are projected to fuel the future growth of the industry, especially in the food packaging sector.
“We are happy to introduce this water-based technology which could lead to increased environmental sustainability,” said Arndt Breitbach, MD, the Doneck Network.
Toyo Ink will exhibit its Aqua Liona and Aquaecol at Interpack 2017, in Düsseldorf, Germany May 4-10.
