Students of the Cologne International School of Design (KISD) presented packaging concepts based on the theme ‘sweet traditions’ and childhood memories at ISM in Cologne.

Under the director of Professor Jenz Großhans, the KISD students were tasked to develop new packaging and product concepts based on ideas that captured their imaginations as kids.

Rock, Paper, Scissors

Rebecca Nöll’s “Rock, Paper, Scissors” concept is founded on the classic childhood hand shape game used to choose a winner. The square butter biscuits denote the three elements with different fillings – nougat-flavoured rock, peanut butter flavoured paper and jam-filled scissors. Draw a biscuit and flip it over. The winner takes both biscuits as well as the kudos.

Oreo cookies may have started the trend to “twist, lick and dunk,” but Meegan Barone has extended the craze with her sticky caramel-filled biscuits. Gnaw!

Celine Rötzel has created a traditional round cookie, which she invites you to “gnaw” with your front teeth to sculpt out the imprinted face. Each package comes with a variety of different faces, giving the muncher a variety of fun options to create. The cookies are not just interactive fun though, they taste good, too.

Olena Rakovska has produced a range of delicate snowflake-shaped stencils to decorate biscuits and cakes. The readymade stencils may be ideal to personalise Christmas goodies, but it’s actually elegant and eclectic enough to bring out at any time of the year. And when you finish the delicious biscuits that are included in the pack, it’s a great excuse to make more.

In your face!

Ekaterina Bobrova has called on inspiration from the silver screen by recreating the popular pie-in-your-face prank. She’s placed a chocolate cupcake with a soft creamy frosting in an innocent looking box, but secretly added a spring that launches the cake when opened. The unsuspecting victim will have a delicious time cleaning up the remnants from their face.
