Italian packaging & processing industry sees €6.2bn turnover in 2015

The Italian food packaging & processing machinery industry rose to €6.2bn turnover in 2015, according to Antonio Cellie, MD, Fiere di Parma.

Approximately 80.7% of this figure comes from exports from the US, France, Germany, China and Turkey.

Emilia Romagna

Speaking at Cibus Tec tradeshow in Parma, Italy, this week, (October 25-28) Cellie said the majority of producers are based in the Emilia Romagna region (36.2%) and account for 62.8% of the total turnover.

Cibus Tec saw a 30% increase in the number of visitors at the show this year, as part of its 51st edition.

There were 1,200 exhibitors, 3,000 international buyers from 75 countries and 35,000 visitors.

Cibus Tec operates in the heart of the ‘Food Valley’ of Emilia Romagna,” said Cellie.

Industry 4.0

He said the manufacturers in the region had made ‘exceptional progress’ adopting Industry 4.0 processes, and targeting the delicatessen, ready-to-use, ready-to-eat product market.

The organisers of Cibus Tec have reason to celebrate this year after partnering with Koelnmesse international event organizer, based in Cologne, Germany. The two companies will now work together alongside Anuga, ISM and Anuga FoodTec trade fairs to promote foreign exhibitors and buyers.

Thomas Rosolia, CEO, Koelnmesse Italia, said the future lies in an increasingly united approach and ‘breaking in’ new markets.
