Kellogg has voluntarily recalled around 10,000 cases of Eggo Nutri-Grain Whole Wheat waffles over fears they may be contaminated with the bacteria that causes listeriosis.

The company discovered the potential Listeria monocytogenes contamination as a result of routine testing.

The affected product is the 12.3 oz (10-count) pack of Eggo Nutri-Grain Whole Wheat waffles with better-if-used-before-date of Nov.21, 2017 and Nov. 22, 2017. The package UPC code 38000 40370.

Distributed across 25 states

The waffles were distributed to customers and retailers in 25 states, including states on the East Coast, the Mid West and the Rocky Mountain region.

Kellogg encourages consumers who bought the affected product to discard it or contact the company for a full refund.

The company has not received any reports of illness so far, and said no other Eggo products are impacted by this recall.

"As soon as the company learned of a potential concern, it moved quickly to identify any foods that might be impacted and resolve the issue," stated the US Food & Drug Administration.

This site previously reported the company received a federal warning in 2011 after Listeria monocytogenes were found in its Georgia cookie plant, where Kellogg manufactured a variety of Keebler and Famous Amos cookies.
