Rembrandt Foods announces new protein isolate launch

Rembrandt Foods is set to bring new protein isolate Rempro 8090 to market in the next few months.

The Rempro 8090 products are egg white protein isolates that provides more than 90% egg white protein on a dry basis, according to Rembrandt.

Available in dried (Rempro 8090-D) and instantized forms (Rempro 8090-SF), the new protein isolate offered reliable functionality, and is completely de-flavored.

“Thirty grams of powdered serving provides 26 grams of protein, which is equivalent to eating eight egg whites,” said Rembrandt, which was founded in 2000 and is one of the largest egg-producing companies in the world. “It also contains 70% less sodium compared to standard egg whites.”

Rempro 8090-SF has a 12-month shelf life from the date of manufacture, and Rempro 8090-D has 18 months. They are expected to be mainly used in pancake mix, waffle mix and extruded snacks.

Protein fortification

The development of Rempro 8090 follows the launch of instant egg white protein Rempro 8000, which contains around 80% protein and is used for protein fortification in a variety of applications, including sports nutrition shakes.

At the recent IFT show in Chicago, Rembrandt showcased how Rempro 8000 could be used in strawberry waffles, with each waffle delivering around 15 grams of protein per serving.

Protein bars

“We’ve seen quite a lot of interest from nutrition bars as well, dried egg whites in protein bars specifically,” Rembrandt Foods VP of marketing and optimization, Jonathan Spurway, told BakeryandSnacks.

“The paleo diet is also a hot trend where people can’t use whey or soy protein. Egg white is a big source of protein for most bakery applications.”
