Fire breaks out at Smurfit Kappa plant

A fire started in a machine at a Smurfit Kappa Townsend Hook paper mill in Snodland, Kent, UK, yesterday (August 12)

Firefighters attended the blaze at 8.41am, which was brought under control around midday.

A spokesman for the fire service said a tonne of paper was destroyed in the incident but no one was injured.

Smurfit Kappa said the fire caused minimal disruption to the firm and praised the fire crew for their swift actions.

Details of the damage have not yet been released.
