The European manufacturer of plastic packaging for food is based in Denmark and said the international expansion plan is in line with its long-term growth strategy.
'There is a market for us in those countries'
Joe Iannindardo, sales director, overseas markets, Færch Plast, told FoodProductionDaily it chose those particular regions because the company ‘believes there is a market for us in those countries’.
“We see some growth potential there. We have representatives in some of these areas but are looking for new agents or distributors in most of them,” he said.
The company is focusing on growing its range of dual ovenable CPET (Crystalline Polyethylene Terephthalate) containers for frozen and chilled convenience meals.
The product can withstand temperatures from -4ºF (-20ºC) to 430ºF degrees (220ºC), for freezer-to-oven or microwaves and claims CPET maintains food flavour and aroma with ‘dual colour’ packs and ‘frost’.
MAPET II mono material
Faerch Plast will also introduce containers produced from its MAPET II mono material into the previously untapped territories, designed for sealing fresh meat, poultry and fish.
“MAPET II mono material previously had untapped territories. It is a relatively new product and we have concentrated on selling it in Europe,” added Iannindardo.
“We have allocated a number of staff in respect to expanding our distribution network. We will not open sales and support offices for the time being.
Sales increase 15%
“We launched this expansion plan because we can see possibilities for our products outside of Europe. We do not feel under pressure from our rivals.”
Faerch Plast’ dual colour CPET trays feature one colour on the outside surface and another on the inside, targeted at high end convenience food products.
Iannindardo said since introducing the product to the British market place it has seen sales increase by 15%.
Faerch Plast picked up five awards in 2014: Snack d’Or trophy at the Sandwich & Snack Show in Paris, for its CPET pizza tray; a ‘Commended’ winner in the 2014 Starpack award’s Food & Drink Primary Packaging category for its dual colour CPET trays; a Scanstar award for MAPET II and a Worldstar in the food category for MAPET II.
