A fruit producer has poured its line of shelf-stable fruit products into jars combining shelf-life extension and increased shelf appeal.

Borde, a food processing and packaging producer specializing in forest-grown fruits and wild mushrooms, has refreshed the look and construction of its line of fruits, using multi-layer jars from RPC Containers Corby.

Refreshed look

Pierre Rasse, marketing director for Borde, said the company saw a need to update the look of the packaging, but they were concerned about not losing touch with its rich history.

We wanted a packaging solution that conveyed our heritage and expertise while creating a distinctive individual identity for our red fruits,” he said.

The French producer selected RPC’s 1L Classic jars, adorned with updated labels, for eight of its fruit varieties (raspberries, blueberries, blackcurrants, blackberries, cranberries, redcurrants, red fruits, and cherries).

The jars feature PP/EVOH/PP multi-layer construction, which reportedly delivers protection against oxygen permeation. In addition to enabling ambient shelf life up to 18 months, the Classic jars are said to preserve the natural taste, aroma, and qualities of the fruits inside.

Updated label

In addition to the packaging construction, Borde also opted to redesign the label. The jars are adorned with a reworked company logo, and the label is designed to showcase the appeal of the fruits and give consumers a clear view of the product.

As part of this the packs had to be attractive, practical and ensure the high quality of the fruits was protected and maintained,” Rasse said. “The Classic jars have exactly met our brief to reflect the premium nature of this gourmet range.”

Packaging engineers also had consumer convenience and sustainability in mind on the project. Each jar has a wide mouth for easy pouring and spooning, with an 80mm closure from RPC Halstead, and the jars’ light weight reportedly increase convenience and environmental profile.
