The vibratory conveyors manufactured by Key Technology have been updated with a rotary polish as the standard finish. The stainless-steel surface is designed to offer improved resistance to bacterial and biofilm formation.
Peter Wood, Key Technology’s process systems product manager, told FoodProductionDaily the stainless-steel finish increases the cleanliness of a food processing environment.
“We are committed to helping food processors maximize food safety,” he said. “The rotary finish we are introducing as a standard on conveyor beds is a step above the industry-standard 2B finish in terms of sanitation.”
The rotary polish replaces the 2B mill finish offered on the company’s Iso-Flo, Impulse, and Horizon conveyors and processing systems. The finish reportedly improves sanitation within the product contact zones, to better ensure safety and sanitary conditions.
Additionally, Wood said the manufacturer has revamped the organization of its conveyor product offering, to enable customers to more readily understand the available options and select the machine best for their environment and applications.
“If a customer wants a different finish or a unique combination of features, we’ll customize the system to match their requirements,” he added.
The conveyors fall into one of four manufacturing specifications: Basic, Standard, Standard +, and Enhanced. The smoother surfaces reportedly are suitable for a range of food items, including fruits, vegetables, potato products, snacks, nuts, meat, and dairy.
In addition to the rotary finish, the stainless-steel conveyors have ground, polished welds within the product contact zones, and ground and polished surfaces within the drip, drain, and draw zones, which are highly susceptible to pathogen contamination.
The revamped surface finish currently is available on Key Technology’s conveyors manufactured in the US; the rotary-polish units will be introduced later this year.
