Campbell Soup launches SpaghettiOs snack attack
Cambell Soup is introducing MicrOs, a sized-down, single-serve snack version of its SpaghettiOs heat-and-eat pasta brand. The product comes in a microwaveable tray, with an easy-to-peel film lid and no metal.
Megan Haney, brand communications manager for Campbell North America, told FoodProductionDaily the single-serve packaging of the recently introduced MicrOs line is geared toward hungry on-the-go consumers looking for a convenient snack.
“Many of us live on-the-go these days and we don’t want our customers to sacrifice taste for convenience,” she said. “Because of this, we wanted to bring the goodness of America’s favorite O-shaped pasta to an ultra-convenient snack for quicker cooking.”
Dale Clemiss, vice president of simple meals at Campbell Soup, said the packaging and product gives parents the chance to feed their kids a convenient, healthful snack option.
“Just like the original, new SpaghettiOs MicrOs offer the same great taste in an ultra-convenient snack-size portion that moms can feel good about serving,” he said. “Kids have loved the great taste of SpaghettiOs for nearly 50 years; now moms will love how quickly they can prepare their child’s favorite flavor with our new microwaveable packaging.”
The product comes in a resin tray, film lid, and paperboard carton. The product will be at retail in US stores beginning in August.
First launched nearly 50 years ago, the SpaghettiOs brand had been unchanged until 1992, when Campbell Soup expanded to shaped and branded pastas, including Where’s WaldOs. In 2013, the brand launched the first additional flavor in more than two decades, with CheeseburgerOs.
Haney said the company plans to introduce a few more tweaks on the tail of the MicrOs launch.
“Later this year we will also be launching two new flavors of SpaghettiOs: Cheesy PizzaOs and Beefy TacOs, both of which will come in a 15-ounce can,” she said.
