Meredian gets FDA Food Substance Contact approval
The approval certifies certain biopolymers by Meredian are safe to use as food containers and storage for the general public.
“Meredian could not be more thrilled with our approval from the FDA with this particular MCL-PHA product,” said Dr. Paul Pereira, executive chairman, Meredian Board of Directors.
“This is just another step forward in our efforts to produce biodegradable products. We are confident we can make an impact that will change the way in which the world views our replacement for plastics.”
Meredian manufactures PHA (polyhydroxyalkanoate), and its MCL-PHA (medium-chain-length PHA) is approved for food substance contact.
The company claims it is now ready to move forward with the production of the pelletized raw material supply for manufacturing safe and biodegradable bioplastic containers, bottles, films and coatings.
