C.H. Guenther & Son acquires three Canadian firms
C.H. Guenther & Son (CHG) has acquired three Canadian bakery companies in a bid to expand its geographical reach.

The grain-based product manufacturer acquired the Canadian companies Golden West Baking Company, Gizella Pastry and Les Boulangeries Rene.

Geographical reach

The buy-outs will mean that the Texas-headquartered firm, will have nine production facilities in the US, three in Canada, and three in Europe (the UK and Belgium).

Commenting on the transaction Dale W. Tremblay, president and CEO of CHG, said: "Rene [Fluri - the majority owner of the three acquired businesses], his management team, and employees have built an impressive array of businesses that service many of the same customers that we supply today, but with an expanded geographical reach into Canada. The product capabilities are also very complimentary to both our European bakery business as well as our US frozen dough and baked goods businesses."

Family-friendly

Rene Fluri said that the two companies were alike in their creation of “a very family-oriented culture for all employees".

CHG was founded in 1851 by German immigrant Carl Hilmar Guenther and remains a family held business.

The Golden West Baking Company and Les Boulangeries Rene facilities produce rolls, buns and English muffins for quick serve, foodservice and retail grocery channels while the Gizella Pastry bakery produces frozen desserts.

CHG already manufactures branded and customer food products for retail and foodservice customers.

The details of the sell-out remain unknown since each company is privately held.
