Rutgers students take home $4,000 PACK EXPO scholarship

Packaging students from New Jersey-based Rutgers University bested the competition in the 2013 PACK Solutions Challenge at PACK EXPO.

Team members Marie Misterio, Diana Mayorga, Miles Borgeson and Diana Jones  will share a $4,000 scholarship from the PMMI Education and Training Foundation for designing packaging for a hypothetical personal care brand. They beat out other teams from Cal Poly State University, Clemson University, Purdue University Calumet, Rutgers University, University of Florida and Virginia Tech.

Judges came from a range of consumer packaged goods companies: Chris Baker, Teva; Travis Powell, Schreiber Foods, Inc.; Greg Lewis, Chattem; Jeff Russell, Pepsi Beverages Co.; Mark Wright, Keurig; and Dave Villeneuve, DRV Coaching & Consulting Inc

Marc Ostertag, president of contest sponsor B&R Industrial Automation, made the presentation in a brief awards presentation Tuesday.

The judges had a very difficult job​,” Ostertag said, adding that the runners up will have a chance at the People’s Choice winner, which PACK EXPO Las Vegas 2013 attendees will be voting on until the show’s end on Wednesday. The winner will be announced after the show wraps up.
