Dessicant keeps food cargo high and dry
The CA-based company, which specialized in controlled atmospheric packaging products, designed Cargo Dry Plus to remove moisture in a range of shipments. The device prevents weakened cartons, loose labels and product damage.
Moisture reduction
According to the manufacturer, the product contains a blend of materials that enable it to absorb up to 158% of its weight in moisture. The previous model, Cargo Dry Pak, absorbs up to 100% of its weight in moisture.
Each Cargo Dry Plus unit comprises a strip containing 1000 g of material. It is secured to a hook, which enables users to hang it in a wide range of storage and shipping containers.
Mold protection
Cargo Dry Plus provides approximately 50 days or more of moisture protection. In addition to keeping products dry, the device inhibits the formation of mold, mildew, rust and corrosion.
According to Ted McIntyre, vice president of sales for Dessicare Inc., the Cargo Dry Plus device helps food firms protect their bottom line.
“Its effectiveness, ease of use and competitive price will increase profit margin and keep the integrity of products and packaging by avoiding container rain or moisture damage,” he said.
In addition to the Cargo Dry products, Dessicare offers a broad range of other products for processors, meat packers and other food-related operations. Its products include oxygen absorbers, humidity indicator cards, molecular sieves and more.
