IBIE recognizes baking sustainability efforts with 2013 awards
IBIE’s B.E.S.T. in Baking (Becoming Environmentally Sustainable Together) awards was launched in 2010 to acknowledge how companies are working to curb their environmental impact.
It recognizes a broad spectrum of companies – equipment suppliers, packaging firms, ingredients companies and products and services – that foster energy and water conservation, decrease landfill waste and promote overall healthy living.
All submissions are evaluated for environmental impact, innovation, feasibility, return on investment (ROI) and practical application to the baking industry.
‘Significant’ growth in sustainability efforts
Entries this year were almost double that of 2012; “indicating significant growth in sustainable products across the industry”, the show organizers said.
“We can make an enormously positive impact on the environment by employing more sustainable methods across the industry,” said Mike Beaty, IBIE chairman and Flowers Foods executive vice president (EVP) of supply chain.
“Those leading the way in this effort are an inspiration and should be recognized for their progress. That’s what B.E.S.T in Baking is all about,” he said.
