Flexible packaging converter Infinium Printing has partnered with Velcro to create easy to use and seal pouches for the US market that can be used for a broad range of foods, including snacks.

US firm Infinium Packaging showcased its flexible pouch bags with the Velcro brand Press-Lok seal at Snaxpo 2013.

“It’s an easier product to use and a product that doesn’t have interference from the food product in the bag for sealing,” said Mark Crush, vice president of new product development at Infinium Printing.

Crush said the seal still functions even with pieces of snack product get lodged in the Velcro hooks.

It offers an alternative to the more traditional re-closable bags and those with a zip lock function, Crush said. “Whatever age group you’re accommodating to, it’s an easier product to seal because there is no need for precise alignment.”

The Velcro is also audible when opening and closing, he said, and this factor along with the ease of use ideally targets senior consumers and kids.

“Ease of use, closure and opening is absolutely the number one game today, and for all ages too.”

Shelf-life is not impacted as the barrier properties in the pouch remain unchanged.

Varied sizes and forms

The Velcro Press-Lok seal can be applied to a broad range of pouches and bags, including stand-up pouches and three-sided seal bags. It can also be worked on different sizes from 3-4 inches wide, up to 26 inches wide. “We can create just about any type of product a customer wants,” Crush said.

Infinium Printing works with manufacturers to create, design and print bags and pouches.
