Avery Dennison has introduced a backing paper free self-adhesive label at Emballage that it said will offer sustainability benefits and increase line productivity.

Frédéric Lemaire, key account manager, South Europe at Avery Dennison told FoodProductionDaily.com the roll is twice the length of a standard roll, leading to doubled autonomy of the machine and the growth in productivity at the trade show in Paris.

He said industry problems include the back coating paper that costs a lot to produce and recycle and their product adhesive is first dry and activated at the end of the labelling process.

LightSmart labels become sticky through heat activation after the print and cut unlike existing backing paper-free print and apply solutions.

Other benefits include simpler operation and handling, or increased speed to market, said the firm.
