Labeling failure prompts Walkers withdrawal in UK

PepsiCo-owned Walkers has withdrawn a Lights Sour Cream six-pack variety in the UK because milk was not listed on the ingredients.

The line has been withdrawn from retail shelves and the UK Food Standards Agency (FSA) has issued an allergy alert.

“The above batches have been withdrawn from sale because although milk is mentioned in the allergy advice box on individual packs of Walkers Lights Sour Cream and Chive flavor crisps, milk is not listed in the ingredients list,” the FSA said in a statement.

“The company [Walkers] will be contacting the relevant allergy support organizations, who will inform their at-risk members of the withdrawal,” it said.

The product being withdrawn is the six-pack 24g Lights variety with ‘best before’ dates of 12 January 2013 and 18 January 2013.

The FSA said there is no information to suggest other products are affected.
