Uflex continues global expansion with start-up of US site
The Indian flexible packaging company said the site was expected to be operational by December with an annual capacity of 30,000 tonnes per annum (TPA).
The US site is part of a global expansion of $250m announced in 2010 as the firm aims to boost its market share across the globe by meeting demand for flexible packaging.
The facility in Kentucky will manufacture Biaxally Oriented Polyester (BOPET) film, and plans are already in place for capacity to be doubled.
Potential deal?
Uflex has also been rumoured to be interested in a deal for packaging firms in the US and Europe to grow their global presence.
It said while growth in the Indian market was strong it was looking to boost its presence abroad.
The company claims it is the world’s only film manufacturer to have plants operating in the four major continents of North America, Europe, Asia and Africa and intends to be working out of 12 countries by 2020.
Previous investment
Uflex currently has five manufacturing plants in India, Egypt, Dubai, Mexico and Poland.
Flex Films, part of the Uflex Group, produces BOPET, Biaxially Oriented Polypropylene (BOPP) Films and Cast Polypropylene (CPP) Films for the bakery, confectionery and dairy markets.
As part of the firm's global expansion a second BOPET Film line has been installed in Mexico in July turning out 36,000 TPA of film and doubling capacity.
In June, the 36,000 TPA facility in Poland started up as the first site in Europe, producing BOPET film.
The third phase of development at the Egyptian site will see 36,000 TPA of BOPET film manufactured, adding to the 36,000 TPA BOPP production capabilities.
