Weidenhammer UK will benefit from the investment from its parent company to expand plastic label production after securing a contract to supply food packaging to a UK supermarket.
The group will launch the production of plastic packaging based on In-Mould Labelling (IML) technology in mid-2012.
The £10m (€11.5m) plant, which opened in November last year and is fully operational, provides composite cans for customers including Kraft, Cadbury, United Biscuits and Premier Foods.
German-based Weidenhammer assumed sole control of the site in 2009 after an initial joint venture with Chesapeake Branded Packaging, a subsidiary of US-based Chesapeake Corporation.
In just three years, annual production increased by 400% from 12m composite cans to around 60m and turnover increased from £2.5m (€2.8m) to a projected £11m (€12.5m) in 2012, said the firm.
