Higher costs for transportation, packaging, propionic acid, phosphates and corn starch is cited as reason for AB Mauri Fleischmann’s decision to raise prices on its propionate products, chemical leaveners and certain other bakery ingredients.

The higher costs will be passed off to bakery manufacturers in the North American market; the hikes are effective from 15 August or as contracts expire, said the company.

For calcium and sodium propionate, the price increases will be 5c per pound (lb). The company said changes in other bakery ingredients will vary based on input cost changes.
