Enhanced stiffness and puncture resistance as well as downgauging and easier processing are benefits claimed by LyondellBasell for its two new low density polyethylene (LDPE) resins.

The Netherlands-based company said both resins are produced using its Lupotech T high pressure tubular process technology.

Lupolen 3420J and Lupolen 3426J have a number of benefits compared to standard LDPE products used in film such as higher stiffness, optimized puncture and tear resistance, optimum optics and low gel levels, said a statement from the firm.

Key beneficiaries of this technology include producers of label, hygiene, overwrap and lamination film, and surface protection film.

Lupolen 3420J is free of additives and addresses application requirements for easy extrusion and high output rates in film applications, said LyondellBasell.

It added that the Lupolen 3426J contains slip and anti-block agents.

“Both products offer good mechanical and optical properties, but customers can also achieve a low coefficient of friction value that offers easy processing on conversion equipment,” said Christof Justus, polyethylene marketing manager at the company.

The high density and improved met strengths of the two new resins give rise to potential downgauging of flexible packaging – presenting material and cost savings for converters, said LyondellBasell.
