Indulgence Patisserie to open site no.2 in 2011
Indulgence Patisserie is pumping £0.75m into converting a former metal fabrication facility adjacent to its current site into a second desserts manufacturing facility that will more than double its production capacity.

Md Angus Allen told FoodManufacture.co.uk he was confident of increasing sales at the Colchester-based firm from £5m to £12m within three years of opening the second factory.

The plan was to convert the site in spring 2011 with a view to being up and running in the summer, he added: “Wehave three adjacent properties in Clough Road in Colchester. The third property is our warehouse.

“We will manufacture an enhanced range of private-label and Indulgence branded desserts and should hit £12m sales within three years of opening.”

When the second site was running at full capacity it should create 40 jobs, he said.

200% increase in export sales

The firm, which has seen export sales surge 200% this year driven by strong growth in sales of own-label desserts to other EU markets, was performing well with total sales up 15% year-on-year, said Allen.

Allen and his brother are the main shareholders and executive directors of the business, which was founded in 1988 and now employs 50 staff.

The firm produces a range of own-label and branded products under the ‘Indulgence’ brand including gateaux, tiramisu, cheesecakes, meringues and pastry-based desserts for retailers and caterers.

Export markets include Belgium, Ireland, the Netherlands, France, Cyprus, Denmark, Portugal and Turkey.
