A new stretchable paper may signal the beginning of the end for thermoform plastic trays, Billerud told FoodProductionDaily.com at the Emballage show in Paris last week.

The Sweden-based company said the unique flexible and forming properties of its revolutionary FibreForm could quite literally change the shape of packaging across the food industry.

Announcing the European launch of the product, sales and marketing director Armin van Overbeek explained how FibreForm can bring significant sustainability benefits, while matching plastic in terms of processability and performance.

Another major advantage is that it can also be used on existing equipment, he explained.
