The “record” attendance numbers at this year’s Modern Bakery Moscow trade fair reflects a growing demand for bakery technologies and products in Russia, according to event organiser Ost-West-Partner.

Miriam Strecker,a spokesperson for the company told Bakeryandsnacks.com that 15,770 trade visitors attended the 2010 trade show – a 31.6 per cent increase from last year.

Growing Russian market

Strecker claims the increased popularity of the event demonstrates the growing appeal interest international companies are showing in the Russian market: “The bakery and confectionery market in particular offers major potential, which is why 40.3 per cent of the exhibitors at the fair were from foreign countries in 2010.”

According to Strecker, there is demand for bakery products in Russia as the country “starts to modernise itself”.

“Snacking is becoming a habit in the big cities, which means coffee shops and bakeries offering snacks are also becoming highly popular,” She said.

Strecker explained that international companies offer machinery and equipment with high quality which is what the Russian market currently needs.

According to the company, focal points of Modern Bakery Moscow include ovens and machinery for bakery and confectionery, raw materials and ingredients, as well as packaging and refrigeration technologies.

Events included an international debate on the use and benefits of refrigeration and vacuum cooling and a “fats and oils” seminar organised by the Russian association responsible for ingredients.

2011 event

The company claims that most of the 194 other exhibitors at the 16th international modern bakery Moscow trade fair had already booked their stand at the 2011 event.

“To position themselves even better in the Russian market, many will have larger stands in 2011 than this year,” said the company.

Ost-West-Partner is soon to commence its marketing campaign in Russia and the CIS states, in a bid to further increase visitor numbers again for next year’s show, which will take place at Expocentre Fairgrounds in Moscow from October 10 – 13, 2011.
