Jury rates Bizerba's single belt checkweigher on cleanability

FoodProductionDaily.com caught up with Bizerba at the recent IPA trade show in Paris to hear about its single-drive belt checkweigher that scooped the process management and control award in the show's innovation competition.

The company’s CWP Neptune is designed to weigh and sort unpackaged and perishable foodstuffs, such as minced meat.

Dieter Conzelmann, global industry director at Bizerba, said that the firm deliberately reduced the number of single components on the CWP to ensure optimal hygiene.

The checkweigher’s single belt prevents any foodstuff, should it fall off the belt, from finishing up either in another part of the machinery, or back in the product stream, explained the Bizerba spokesperson.

He added that as the system does not have any driving rollers or deflection rollers, cleaning cycles can therefore be kept short and the operating costs are reduced to a minimum as a result of their being less parts subject to wear.

R & D at Bizerba, he said, is currently looking to increase the CPW's capacity and product range.
