Groupe Guillin has tabled a 100 per cent takeover bid for UK plastic packaging company Sharp Interpack.

The French firm, which also has operations in Spain, Italy, Poland and England, said negotiations had been ongoing since 21 December to purchase Sharp Interpack, which last year posted a £84m turnover. No other financial details were disclosed.

In a statement to the Paris Stock Exchange yesterday, the company said it hoped to complete by the end of March 2010, on completion of due diligence procedures.

“This acquisition would allow Groupe Guillin to reinforce its position in the English market with a complete packaging offering for meat, fruit and vegetable products”, said the French firm.

Andrew Copson, deputy managing director for Sharp Interpack, told FoodProductionDaily.com: “If this does go ahead, it will be a great move for the company.”

Guillin already owns three UK packing companies; Premier Packaging, GPI and Socamel UK.
