A new guide on checkweighers can help improve quality and maximise performance for the baking industry as well as other food production sectors, claims Mettler Toledo.

Bakery manufacturers are increasingly using checkweighers to ensure their products comply with legal specifications regarding pack weights. Checkweighers allow processors to measure the weight of the product and reject packs that are under or over the regulatory allowance.

Mettler Toledo claims that the use of a checkweigher in the baking sector can also enable closer control of product mixing and portioning for a more consistent final product as well as data collection options such as statistics and filler feedback control and comprehensive connectivity packages.

The checkweigher manufacturer said its 70 page guide "Principles of Checkweighing" was written by a recognised team of highly qualified international experts and customers and is based on over 50 years of active experience in the field of checkweighing:

“It explains all factors that need to be considered when making a decision to purchase a new piece of kit or to achieve the maximum efficiency from a checkweigher already in use.”

The inspection equipment manufacturer said the guide was devised not only to help decision-makers understand all aspects of integrating weighing equipment into a production line, but also as information resource for all quality control managers and production line operators.

“It also shows how to save money in production processes while increasing product quality, protecting brand reputation and increasing overall equipment effectiveness (OEE),” stressed the company.

The guide, it added, is comprised of two main parts, with the first half explaining the basics of checkweighing technology, different technical approaches and designs, and “helps readers understand the many factors that have an influence on weighing accuracy and product handling.”

“In the second half, the guide details every aspect that must be considered in the creation, implementation and maintenance of an effective checkweighing programme,” said the company.
