A leading food-packaging group says it is moving to develop its
products to meet more specific industry requirements like
multi-sized goods with longer shelf life.

RPC containers claims that it will continue to work with processors to devise new ways of using materials like its multilayer Polypropylene (PP) packaging in food products like condiments and sauces. The PP includes an Ethylene-Vinyl Alcohol Copolymer (EVOH), which acts to reduce oxidisation of the condiments, RPC says. The focus reflects the growing need amongst processors for tailored packaging that can offer additional convenience and safety benefits to their products. RPC says it has therefore recently worked with Germany-based condiment group Hamker in order to find new means of packaging the company's products with additional benefits such as improving shelf life while reducing the need for preservatives in their products. The packager added that as part of its cooperation with Hamker, it has also worked for new bottles to be used with its condiments and mayonnaises in a variety of sizes for both home and food service use. This has led to the development of new top-down condiment bottles in both a 270ml household size and a 700ml variety for larger family demand, which the company claims have additional shelf life benefits resulting form the multilayer PP. In addition, the packaging material also allows the processor to use the bottles in a hot fill process, that is also transparent, squeezable and a more robust alternative to glass, according to RPC. A spokesperson for the company told FoodProductionDaily.com that the firm continued to focus its operations towards changing market requirements related to food processing.
