A new range of biodegradable meat pads can
reduced discoloration in packaged meat, the manufacturer
claims.

Australian-based BioPak said its Dri-Fresh Resolve also controls the surface moisture of the meat, which ensures that the underneath looks as fresh as the top. Food safety and the environmental impact of processes and packaging are two of the most important concerns manufacturers have at present. Packaged meat can leak blood, which makes the products look less appealing to consumers. The pads are made from non-GM corn starch film thermally laminated using a process that does not involve adhesives or bonding materials. Pads can be supplied in any shape of size and a range of absorbencies are available to meet different product requirements. Once used the pads are compostable and easily decompose, the company claims. BioPak manufacturers a range of packaging and plastic based products for food and other industries.
