Cryovac aims at convenience with vacuum packaging

A new type of self venting film packaging can be put directly in
the microwave without the need to puncture the film.

Cryovac's latest vacuum packaging, Simple Step, hopes to cater for growing demand for greater functionality and convenience with heat and serve products. The film meets the increasing demand for convenience packaging. Consumers are generally spending less time on meal preparation and are on the lookout for products they can prepare quickly and easily at home. Cryovac's simple step vacuum skin packaging reduces the time needed to cook, reheat or defrost products, while requiring minimal consumer effort, the company claims. Along with reducing cooking times, the film also offers taste and texture preservation, the company added. Simple Step is a sealing product that uses a self venting system to release steam, thus avoiding the need for the consumer to perforate the packaging. It allows a consumer to simply remove the product from the packaging and begin heating, without any need for further preparation, says Cryovac. Simple Step comes in both rollstock and pre-made tray formats. The company believes that along with improved functionality, the film will providing branding and safety features that appeals to processors. The vacuum seal keeps to the contours of a product, allowing instant recognition by the consumer. As the film requires no puncturing or cutting during preparation, Cryovac is confident that the packaging can significantly reduce the risk of burns and other related injuries.
