A new range of pressure transmitters with food standard
clean-in-place (CIP) capability has been launched with the longest
warranty in the industry, its manufacturer claims.

Pressure transmitters measure the pressure of liquids and gases within processing plants. They translate low-level electrical outputs from pressure sensing devices to higher-level signals that are suitable for transmission and processing.

Princo Instruments' SmartPress Model LP-D is available with a unique ten year warranty, the US-based company claims.

The flush diaphragm helps prevent buildup of process material and allows CIP cleaning as required in food and beverage processing as well as other sanitary applications, the company claims. They can also be used in water and waste water processing as well as packaging and chemical applications.

The flush diaphragm protects the unit's piezorestistive sensor, using pressure transfer silicone oil between both. Food grade oil is also available as an option.

The units operate within 0.25 per cent accuracy in the 19 available pressure ranges from -14.5 to 5800 PSI.

Princo claims SmartPress has a wide temperature range and a high overload capacity, making it suitable in material processing applications. They feature 316 stainless steel flush diaphragms and a variety of process connections.

The units can operate over a temperature range of between -40F to 158F (-40C to 70C)ambient and between -13F to 257F (-25C to 158C) for process materials.

An optional plug-in programming and display module, which can be moved between units, allows users to configure and monitor settings via a six-digit LCD display, engineering units, and bar graph display. Customers opting for Hart communications can also set up and access remotely.

When used for liquid level sensing, the unit measures the hydrostatic pressure and compares the liquid head pressure with the actual atmospheric pressure.

The specific gravity of the substance being measured can be programmed into the unit, helping to maintain the accuracy of measurements, the company claims.

The two-wire, loop powered transmitters provide push button programming, which makes them easy to install and setup, the company claims. They can also be supplied by Princo pre-calibrated at no additional cost.

Enclosed in IP65/NEMA 4X housings, units come as either epoxy-painted aluminum or plastic.

Units are available for around $800.
